Group nominations for access

Hello.  I'm one administrator of a private group that we're creating.  We have membership locked down, such that it takes other members to confirm nomination prior to granting access.  We're also seeking to distribute administration of the site.

Is there any way to modify the "join" page that comes up if you're not a member?  We'd like to have it link to an external for that would manage a more custom "request for access" process.

Alternatively, does anyone else have suggestions for using the system as it is for managing this?  Our current hang up is that we'd like to have the broad member base be notified if someone is requesting access, such that members can either directly approve a known person or they can indicate to a small group that the member is ok.

Many thanks,

Andrew

Andrew,

In general, Groupsites don't allow for modification of the "Join" page. And, in your private Groupsite, the "Join" page displays to any non-member who wants to join and/or requests access to your Groupsite.

There is no feature that will automatically notify your non-manager member base when someone requests to join. However, you can:

  • Automatically notify any Groupsite Manager of a Pending Membership request

  • Distribute administration of your Groupsite by creating multiple managers.

  • Allow your Groupsite's members to invite others. Presumably, if a pending Groupsite member has been invited by a current member, the pending member could be considered as "confirmed" nominated.

If those features don't help, you could:

  • Send an email blast to the entire group notifying them of pending membership requests. However, this could annoy your member base depending on their frequency.

  • Use the ability Managers have to review invitees and members, 2) see who invited them, and 3) withdraw the invitation or remove a member from the Groupsite, if any needed.

  • Set your Groupsite to visibility to "limited" and your membership to "By Invitation Only." This would allow non-members to view the SUMMARY page where you could add a "Join" button that links to any external page you want. However, the approval process would not be integrated and at some point you would need to send the approved member an invitation from your Groupsite in order for them to join.

Note: Changing a member's status to "Manager" will give the member full administrative privileges, including ability to send email blasts, control settings and delete information within your Groupsite.

Hope this helps.
