CONTINUING ISSUES WITH STATISTICS

I just compared the CX daily page view statistics with my Google analytics daily page view statistics.  CX shows that on 2/16 my Groupsite, http://terracecommunities.collectivex.com/main/summary, had 426 page views.  Google shows it as having 176.  This is highly problematic for my business.  Is there any progress with fixing this?

I was just going to post similar topic.

Have the same problem. For 26.02.2009 my groupsite statistic shows 149 views, while in google I have 70.

Another issue is with the visitors. Google Analytics shows that these visitors are mostly from US and only 5 from Bulgaria, and I know that I have no users from US.

When I look at Content by title in Google Analitics it shows this:

These are not pages from my groupsite, but it captures some other groupsites?!?!

Emil - I became aware of this same problem from another client yesterday and brought it to Joe's (our CTO) attention.  We are still investigating what is happening. If you have any clues we are open to suggestions by for the moment we are a bit stumped. We will figure it out and get it resolved but for now it is a known mystery.

We hope to have a quick resolution.

As for the page views in our stats not matching the Google anylytics oage views, 2 known factors are in place that are contributing to this.  One is that we currently do not make a distinction between actual user views and those page views caused by search engines crawling the site.  Google doies and does not report on the search engine crawls.  Secondly, we use a lot of ajax in our pages anbd a lot of actions that users take would trigger a "new page view" in most sites but since we are not refreshing the entire pagfe, Google does not report it as a new page view where we do.

I hope that makes sense and I am sure Joe can provide a more technically complete answer if you wish.

Thanks,

Shaun

Hi Shaun,

I made a little investigation on my own on this issue and here waht I have found.

I've noticed some differences between google generated tracking code for my groupsite and the actual code on the site.

1. The tracker ID number is different. I cheked in my webmaster settings page and I have entered the corect UA-namber .. but in the source of my web page is diferent

2. there is aditional line in the source file which is missing form the google ganarated code:

pageTracker._setDomainName(".collectivex.com");

and my domain name is: www.bgtrainers.com ...

Hope this information will be useful for you.

Emil - Great work!  Thanks.  You may have found the culprit.  I will make sure Joe (our CTO) takes a look at this and adjusts things accordingly.

In case you haven't figured it out yet, not only am I not the tech-guy, I don't care how any of this stuff works, but I do care greatly that it does work.

We hope to have this resolved shortly (it is being worked on as ticket #1305). Thanks for taking the extra time to help figure out what is going on.

Hello Shaun, Joe,

I am writing to remmember you about this issue. I don;t see any porgress about that.

And it has been several weeks since this was reported.

Please, this issue is important for me and my group site, and I lost one month of statistics data because of that.

Thank you!

Still important but still an outstanding ticket.

Thanks for the patience.

Shaun

Hello...

This issue is still unresolved!

And it has been already a month and a half since reported..

For my oppenion this is too long for a service that I pay for.

Emil - I understand your frustration.  As a gesture of good faith, I have attached your Groupsite to my house account so you now have our Groupsites Pro edition (all of our premium features with no ads) which you will not be billed for. We are still working on getting all of the issues fixed with our statistics but I hope it helps that you are no longer paying for them as we complete our work.

Shaun

Thanks for the gesture, Shoun.

I just needed to know that this issue is not forgotten and will be fixed soon.

I am a manager for six collectivex sites.  For all of them, the number of page views for May 2009 is significantly lower than in previous months.  Is this a trend of overall inactivity? Or was the system not counting most of May's page views?

Tom - we need to take a deep dive into our stats and make sure we understand exactly what is being tracked and how.  Currently, many of our pages have a lot of functions that occur without actually reloading the entire page and we are looking at what constitutes a "new page" view.  I know this is a source of frustration but I can assure you that we have a strong internal incentive to make sure our stats are reflecting what is actually happening.

We hope to have an update on stats stabilization sooner rather than later.

Shaun
