Thread view count value

I just realized that every time I view a post the view count gets incremented. If the purpose of the view counter is to understand how interesting or poular a thread is, than this counter is showing the wrong count. In web marketing we use the terms "unique views", "cpm/cpc/cpa", etc. In this case I am interested in:
1) unique views - who in my group of members (other than the author) has ever viewed the thread
2) aggregate views - how many times overall have members (other than the author) viewed the thread
If this counter just adds up the number of views without taking the author into consideration the view counter loses meaning because it can falsely appear to be the most popular thread.

At the moment, the number of views is only intended to show you how many times a topic has been viewed. This not a bug. Further, it is not an inaccurate portrayal of activity. The more often a thread is viewed, the more popular is. If a member views it more than once, the thread is likely more valuable to him/her than if they viewed it more than once. Moreover, if people continue to come back to the thread in the future, because they continue to find a need to access it's content, this will also be reflected in the view count.
While your ideas are good ones, they offer a more specific view of the data. I wouldn't want that data to be the number in the "Views" column. What would be better would be a popup which gives you the statistics that you are looking for.
We will be offering a statistics package soon which will allow managers to view reports on member page views on a member-by-member basis, or overall views per, unique views by member, and much, much more.
Keep the ideas coming, it will help us build a better CollectiveX!
(By the way, I'm moving this topic into Feature Requests)
