Enlarge the forum icons to 32x32

I tried to upload images for use with discussions and in each case it shrunk them so they are no longer identifiable. If there are instructions, limitations, or suggested ways of approaching this feature please put in "i" box that can give hints on how to make this work correctly.

Hi Jonathan,

The icons are restricted to a 24x24 size.

There are some instructions directly underneath that upload box say: _Custom icons must be 24 x 24 and will automatically be scaled to fit. Icons with transparent backgrounds will look the best._

I hope this helps.

24 x 24 images are very small gentleman. The surrounding box is 45 x 45. Why dont you instead let us take the real estate of the entire 45 x 45 box instead of the squinty, small 24x24?

45x45 would actually obscure the rounded corners of the outer box. So we won't go that large. If you look at the icon for the headlines and links discussions, it's a full 24x24 square.

Much larger than that probably won't look right. We're always trying to strike a balance between giving power to the users and making sure the interface remains clean looking. The icon size may get revisited later, but there other priorities on the horizon as of right now. We'll keep you abreast, for sure.

Hey Jonathan,

You'll be pleased to know that we'll be enlarging the size of these icons soon. 32x32 will probably work fine with the current layout, without requiring us to re-layout the look-and-feel of the forums page.

These are enlarged now. Your icons should have already been updated.

Thanks Joe.
Your efforts are really making a difference. Just for the sake of discussion, is there any reason why the faded, rounded, outer box is so important. What I mean is that the purpose of the accompanying pictures is to help readers identify the context of the discussion (a visual queue) quickly. The more difficult it is to see what the image is the less meaningful or helpful it is in telling the reader what the discussion is about, and it can end up just being a distraction. Look at your member photo in your post above. It conveys something about you that I can perceive, that you are friendly. If thats what you intended then you succeeded, but part of the reason is because I can see your expression in the photo and it conveys that feeling. If you shrunk the photo I would not be able to perceive your expression enough for it to influence my thinking. In the end what I am talking about is reconsidering for a minute the sizes of user generated images:

1) When the member ID's are larger (in the profile area, discussion posts, and member tab), members will be more open to each other because they are better able to perceive more about the individual from the expressions in the photo. This can really help increase community interactions.

2) When the discussion accompanied images are larger (and well selected) members will feel more excited about joining what appears to be a branded, exciting, exclusive conversation.

I would really like to hear what you and others think about this. When I use VBulletin member photos are 150x150, and they come alive. Its really nice. If the concern is real estate you could display names instead with a hover over that shows the 150x150 photo. I just want to understand what CollectiveX is basing its decision on when determining image sizes in these areas I mentioned. Have a look at the affect of the 120x120 size member photos in the profile areas of www.goingon.com, and you will see what I mean. Here is an example

...I love the new size on the profile image Joe. Really great. Feels alive. You know what they say about things that are "bigger"
