Is it possible to operate a paid membership site using collectivex?

Hi, Gina. This is a great request. We don't offer this functionality today, although the ability to suspend a member (from within the Manager > Manage Members area) can be used to suspend members who have not paid dues (tracked and collected in a system external to your Groupsite).

Are there any groups operating a paid membership from within their Groupsite? If so, can you share what tool you're using to accomplishing this?

I know several ways to do it outside of this system but am looking for one stop shopping.

This is an area that I'm exploring as well - specifically to add a premium-level of membership later for a fee. I noticed that a page from a Collectivex group, MotorCity Connect, that has done this was posted in a past blog. Here: http://champions.collectivex.comlink/go/5969923

I look forward to seeing any additional examples.  Thanks!

The above link didn't work as expected. I'll try again: http://motorcityconnect.collectivex.com/page/mcc-membership-levels

We're working on implementing this right now using aMember.

My web developers spoke with Shaun last night. It is going to involve some manual processes for the time being, but we are going to automate as much as possible using Macro Scheduler to write automation scripts.

If the community catches on, we will look at doing a deeper integration.

Or maybe CollectiveX and aMember will get together and deliver this as a packaged integration. I would love that, and I think it would be very popular.

Good excetp with aMember I see dollar $ign$ Cry Look forward to seeing with you come up with.

thanks

Thanks - this is a great example

Just to let everyone know, "aMember" is written in PHP and CollectiveX is written in Ruby.  These are two completely distinct programming languages that are not compatible with one another.

We do have short-term future plans to add this capability as a core feature of CollectiveX.

Joe, what does "short-term future plans" mean? Within the next month, next couple months, next year? If you're going to be releasing something very soon we could probably wait.

Judy,

We likely won't be able start the development process until three weeks from now.  If it takes longer than a week to develop the initial version, we could be looking at the beginning of March until it is implemented.

The initial version will at least support paid Groupsite memberships on initial signup and on a recurring basis.

Thanks, Joe! That's good to know.

I'm delighted to hear that this is something you will be working on.

I hope you will keep all of us up-to-date with your progress. I believe this could be huge for CollectiveX.

Joe -- Can you tell me the status of the paid Groupsite memberships? I've looked all over the site and can't seem to find anything.

Thanks!

Dan - We still do not have this functionality as a core feature of our platform.  Many Groupsites are adding Paypal widgets to their Summary pages and setting their Groupsite visibility to "limited".

This allows the world to see only your Summary page.  Once they make payment through your Paypal widget, you can then send an invite to the Groupsite.

This solution is working fine for those groups who get less than a dozen new members a day. Above that, we realize a completely automated solution is preferred but unfortunately, we do not have that yet.

Hope that helps,

Shaun

Any updates on paid membership at this time?

Sounds like someone wants to link their Paypal to their Groupsites account ..  Thou this would be the better judgement of groupsite Admins. Personlly this option should not be allowed.. Accepting paypal via your group site could be allowed but not linking accounts.
