When I see a topic entry that is relevant to a particular person or a few people, I would like the ability to select the relevant members from a drop down menu that I can have it sent to.

@Clarence - It would be best to divide the issues up here:
1) Who gets the notice - a push based on a managers decision, or based on a subject (tags) that users have chosen to subscribe to.
2) The format of the notice - Send the headline with a link? Send the whole content? Send a short abstract? Some combination of the aforementioned?
3) The delivery of the notice - Email? Private inbox? Public inbox? Subscribed Subject inbox?
Also, is this the most important feature request relevant to other requests with regard to the interests of CollectiveX, the interests of the community users, and the level of impact/benefits to both?
@Clarence, Judith, Joe:
Secondarily, it would be great to be able to view all threads' Post count, View count, Discussion container name, or Thread name. The purpose would be to see what threads were the most compelling to members to read, to to react and reply.
Not sure if you guys noticed. We have updated the Manager / Group Settings area to include a permission control for 'Discussion Blasts'. You are now able to prevent your members from sending discussion blasts to all group members. In the past, this would have also subscribed all group members to the discussion topic. As a result, each group member would have received all future discussion replies by default.
We made a fundamental change to how 'discussion blasts' work. If you have permission to send a discussion blasts, it now will only send the initial topic post to all group members. If the member wishes to receive future replies to the topic, he/she will have to click the link included in the initial email that reads "Subscribe me to future replies from this discussion".
Note: The ability to select specific members when sending out discussion blasts is coming in the future.
(moved to feature request)
Great!! Don't know that I can keep up with this discussion... perhaps it would be worth having "sub discussions" so that we can start branching interesting conversations, when many different directions come into it!!
Going back to the original feature request, if it were possible to send a discussion to a person, and have an ajax style box, where you start typing in a name, and get a list of closest matches, I think that would do the trick! And then, being able to send the same discussion topic to many people, (i.e. being able to "add another", and perhaps a short personal message, will really help to get people engaged in discussions that are of interest to them!!)
Farhan,
Something similar to this feature is definitely on the horizon, in one shape or another.
I just created a business opportunity post. Who in my group is interested? Only SOME people. If I send a blast than people who are not interested get spammed and I lose credibility (which has already caused a few people to leave). On the other hand there is no way to send the same message to a select set of people. This is becomming my top priority request as it is also my biggest cause for defection and dissatisfaction.
Jonathan,
We agree that you should be able to send an email/discussion blasts to a select set of members. That is a feature that is on our priority list. So expect to see it in the relatively near future. Meanwhile, please be patient. We are working very hard on features that will also improve the overall experience for professional and social groups.
Regards,
Clarence
Hi all,
Along those same lines, being able to restrict access to certain folders would be extremely beneficial to our organization. Thanks and keep up the excellent work!
Dennis
Hello CollectiveX creators.
Any traction on this request?
Guys,
See my reply to "this discussion topic":http://champions.collectivex.com/discussion/topic/show/21570?order=newest for progress on this feature request.
Clarence
I like it Clarence - (sorry it took so long to reply -- I just now realized that you replied to me in here). I like the tagging. I would still like to be able to forward a particular disscussion postings to one or two members that I can pick... maybe not part of a group... just people that might find it relevant to them.
what you are suggesting is a nice feature but it is actully more complicated than what I was hoping for... a simple way to forward the info to just a few relevant folks.
Since your note to me was posted last May (saying this week)... has them been implemented. I have been using Collectivex but I have not noticed it... maybe I have to go looking for it? thanks Clarence... and happy holidays,
Judy.
Clarence,
Your reply about "tagging" actually brings to mind a couple of questions I'd like to ask:
1) I would like to share certain groupsite members between two or more of my groupsites. Is there a way to do this without having to send separate invitations from each site?
2) Is there such a thing as "sub-groupsites" within a groupsite? For example, I would like to create a "sub-groupsite" specifically for the managers or committee members "tagged" or selected from among the general groupsite membership so that they might have exclusive access to a sub-groupsite that contains sensitive information and documents I don't want shared with the general membership. Ideally, these "special project groups" (managers, etc.) would have access to the general group calendar, files, etc., for planning purposes without having to click between groups in their drop-down list of groupsites.
In short, I'm asking for optional "sharing" -- merging of sorts -- of selected members ("tagged") without multiple invitations to the same individuals; and a comprehensive "one-stop" groupsite where I have "sub-group" options for special project teams, etc. This is what I would call a "hot group" option.
If this feature already exists, please forward instructions and/or advice...or if these questions have been asked, please resend the reply. If not, are these features being considered or planned? Has anyone else made such a request? If it's not available nor currently being planned, would you consider it, and how long would it take for it to be implemented?
Looking forward to your reply...God bless!
Trish
Trish,
You've made two very valid requests. As to your first point, sharing members between two or more groupsites without inviting, we don't have a solution for that in the works... though I suspect we'll look into it in the future. As to your second request, sub-groupsites, we are currently working on that very functionality. Expect to see it very, very soon
Sincerely,
Clarence
