Participation Inequality: Encouraging More Users to Contribute

Here's an interesting article about Participation Inequality by Jakob Nielsen. Any public forum that relies on voluntary contributors and voluntary readers do - 1% of membership doing all the contributions, 9% contributing occasionally and 90% being Lurkers - read but no write. What is interesting is the question - how can you increase participation - You can't! Except by increasing the base number so that the 1% of it is a larger number of contributors.
