Introduction to Group Engagement - Tell us your group's story

In order for most groups to be successful, member engagement (participation and interaction) is required. Depending on the type of group, the level of engagement varies greatly.

Due to its flexibility and core feature focus on communication, coordination, and networking, CollectiveX contains a wide variety of public and private groups. Group types range from membership and alumni groups; to project workgroups and company intranets; to informal groups and web communities. Each group-type engages in very different ways.

Some CollectiveX groups are very interested in member networking, some are not. Some groups are more interested in the group's calendar, while some are focused around discussion forums. Many take advantage of all that CollectiveX has to offer. But is it enough?

Tell use about your group. Tell us about your members (demographics: technical sophistication level, avg. age, etc.) and how they use or don't use your group. In your opinion, are your group members active or would you say that they are passive? What is the mostly used area of your group? Do you have tips of suggestions that might increase your group members reliance or usage of your CollectiveX group?

We promise to use all insights gained from your feedback to add features that will aid you in engaging your group.

Let the discussions begin.

it would be great to be able to provide that newsletter to members of my group. I find it hard to keep members up-to-date with the new things they can now do on the site.

Hi, why am I unable to succefully insert a poll widget (Poll Daddy) in the body of the new topic? (it allows all process, but doesn't show the widget)

Make sure you are on the "HTML SOURCE" tab when you paste the embed code.  That should work.

No luck Shaun..... the editor for topic/ topic replies doesn't seem to be supporting any kind of embedded widgets & java script - I've tried inserting from Advanced editor using "insert embedded widget option" and also by appending it/ pasting it in 'HTML source') - I have used widgets extensively on the home screen top portion & side bar (phdig.collectivex) & they seem to support them fine...

Please check - this could be a bug

Hello all,

At 1724 members this very moment, the group I created & Manage "Pharmaceutical Discussion Group" right now is the largest collectivex group site under Science & Technology.

While my members do appreciate my 'enthusiasm at creating momentum', regular group engagement is still a challenge. Among other things, I've noticed that the following things did help group engagement;

- Maintaining Quality & Current Relevance in New Topics - Waiting too long for members to start a topic on a current issue doesn't work often, many times they just wait for the trigger, you be one!

- Email Blasts of topics when done with discretion.....do not overuse this tool

- Inviting non-members (specialists/ opinion leaders) to reply on a specific topic of his area of expertise

- Polls (how I wish polls are allowed within topics so that members get indulge in some action)

- Updating "Headlines & Links" with all possible RSS feeds so that it's a one-stop for all news in your domain!

- Using widgets to showcase news/blog feeds....

- Get Emotional - Whimpering once in a while & beseeching members to participate more at times works :-) - again donot overuse and be very very cautious in your language...

- Keep attracting new members.... remember that your most potential new member is the pending member... the email blast of a very current & very interesting topic may just rope them in this time around... again use discretion in blasting topics to pending members, not all topics, not always...

You are welcome to snoop around my groupsite....

and yes, I am looking for more ideas of engagement...

Hi everyone

Just wanted to share an extremely dynamic way in which we recently used our Groupsite as a sharing opportunity at a recent conference.

Over a 2 day period we had several laptops set up with the Groupsite page open for individuals to log on and place their feedback, experiences, learnings and messages to each other via the Groupsite. This was also a fantastic way of keeping those people who could not attend in person informed of what was happening! It was great way of engaging some of those who are generally more reluctant to share to log on while someone was there to provide them a practical tutorial on how to use the site to it's fullest advantage!

I believe there will be intention for us to continue using the Groupsite as a live feedback channel for future conferences and forums and thought you might find this interesting!

Regards

Kelly

Kelly,

That sounds great! Thanks for sharing that experience. I think Groupsites are great for conferences. Some are shooting videos of conference speakers and are embedding them into more pages for Groupsites. Those more pages are then linked to dedicated discussions for each speaker. This is a great way to continue the conversation around each conference session after the conference has ended.

Excellent ideas. On speedreednews we incorporate audio for leadership & accountability conference ''re-call'' in conjunction w/ visual media.
