Using Custom Favorites Icons

Groupsites offer the ability to upload a custom favorites icon -- also called favicons  - as part of the Premium Branding option. This is a small icon that appears in your web browser's address bar, on page tabs and next to the page name in your list of bookmarks.

Here's an example:

Attachment.

If you've uploaded your custom favorites icon and find it doesn't appear when you're using Internet Explorer (IE), here's what may be happening:

While Firefox and other browsers are forgiving and allow all sorts of icon types, IE does not. IE will only accept images in *.ico format. Click here for instructions for how to create an *.ico image in Photoshop.

If you create your favorites icon in .ico format and then upload it to your Groupsite, you should find that it displays in IE.  A favicon uploaded to a Groupsite in this format will display in IE6, 7 and 8. Note, however, that in IE6 favicons only display in the Favorites menu (hence the term "favorites icon") and do not display in the address bar for any site on the web.
